Walker Williams note: Growing up in The Blue Ridge Mountains the Black Bears were rarely seen. 60 years later with proper management the Black Bear is once again our neighbor. I see them quite often. I respect their power and beauty. The wood used in this board had the claw marks of a bear or possibly several bears. Bears mark trees in their territory by scratching off the bark to get to the sap wood. Bear unwritten communication. I get my local wood from many locations from timber cutters to lumber mills. I hand select wood especially if there is a story to tell.
